Waterfalls Across the UK
The UK might not be the first place you think of when you picture spectacular waterfalls, but there are hundreds to discover. From dramatic falls in mountainous landscapes to smaller cascades hidden in woodland, there is an incredible variety to explore.
Waterfalls have been shaped by the landscapes around them over thousands of years, with the UK’s varied geology, rivers, mountains and valleys all playing a part in creating the waterfalls we see today. Some have carved their way through rocky gorges, while others tumble over layers of rock surrounded by ancient woodland.
And you don’t always have to travel far to find one. Some waterfalls can be reached with a short and easy walk, while others are tucked away at the end of longer trails, making finding them part of the adventure.

How Many Waterfalls Are There in the UK?
It’s difficult to say exactly how many waterfalls there are across the UK. There is no official total, and different sources count waterfalls in different ways. Some figures commonly quoted online suggest around 125, while other sources describe the UK as having hundreds of waterfalls.
My own list of waterfalls to explore currently totals 208, and that number will continue to grow as I discover and research more. The true number is likely much higher when smaller cascades, seasonal waterfalls and lesser-known or unnamed falls are included.
Part of the fun of exploring the UK is discovering that there are still plenty of waterfalls tucked away in woodland, valleys and remote countryside.
Explore UK Waterfalls
The UK Waterfalls Guide currently focuses on England and Wales, with new waterfalls being added as they are visited and researched.
More Waterfalls to Come
This guide is still growing. As I live in Shropshire, I am well placed to visit and research waterfalls across England and Wales, and the guide will eventually expand to include Scotland and Northern Ireland too. My aim is to build a useful guide covering waterfalls across the whole of the UK, including both natural and man-made waterfalls.

Plan Your Visit
Finding a waterfall is only part of the adventure. Knowing how to get there, what the walk is like, where to park and what to expect when you arrive can make planning your visit much easier.
Each waterfall guide includes practical information to help you plan your visit, while the resources provide useful tips and information for exploring waterfalls safely.
